A hidden gem in the Suffolk countryside

Flempton Golf Club was founded in 1895. The course condition and outstanding green complexes are excellent all year round, with the course rarely closed during the winter months as the sand-based land drains well. For most of the year the course, is refreshingly uncrowded, with access prioritised for the membership.

Close to the historic market town of Bury St Edmunds, and sitting adjacent to the Lackford Lakes Nature Reserve the club has maintained its traditional ethos and is regarded as one of the finest golf courses in the Eastern Region and one of the best 9-hole golf courses in the UK.

Visitors & Societies are warmly welcomed. However, please note all visits must be arranged in advance with the Club Manager.

The Course

The Masterplan

Martin Ebert of Mackenzie & Ebert course architects has been engaged to provide a masterplan for course development in the years ahead. This pays homage to the original J.H. Taylor design whilst sympathetically adding nuance to the aesthetics, whilst enhancing the golfing challenge for today’s members, their guests and the clubs future generations.

Culford Connection

The Club is proud of its 100 year association with Culford School it’s near neighbour, and is home to the Culford School Golf Academy.

Culford School established the High Performance Golf Academy under the tutelage of PGA Pro Lawrence Dodd.

Course Architect

In 1906 the club invited J H Taylor (Five-time Open winner) to redesign the course layout. Taylor’s ingenious clover leaf design of three loops of three holes all returning to the clubhouse at its heart, remains in place today across the 45 acre estate. A small masterpiece of design.

The Club

The Clubhouse

The Clubhouse dates back to 1905 and was built and furnished by the clubs first President Sir John Wood, at the height of the Arts & Crafts movement. An example of the craftsmanship of the time, using locally sourced timber from Culford in a cricket pavilion style, with an open fireplace inside and originally a south facing verandah, overlooking the 9th green.

Food & Drink

The Club is renowned for the high quality of its roast lunches, traditional pies, a variety of desserts & home made ice cream. The club’s Head Chef, Brad Finbow, would be happy to discuss any catering requirements you may have in the advance of your visit.

The Pro Shop

Paul Kent turned professional at the age of 17. He served his apprenticeship with renowned coach Alex Hay at Woburn Golf & Country Club. Paul gained his European Tour Card at the first attempt aged just 19 and played tournament golf from 1983-1991 in over 100 events. These included National Opens in the Australian PGA, Australian Masters, and the Open on three occasions.
